OGLCC an Official Partner of the Inspire Awards
OGLCC is once again proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the Inspire Awards, specifically of the award honouring the LGBTQ Positive Business of the Year.
Following a hugely successful launch in the first half of 2011 of the INSPIRE AWARDS, an initiative designed to celebrate and honour the LGBTQ community’s unsung heroes and those who make a difference, decisions were made to continue with the awards into the future and to form a not-for-profit organization with the mission of facilitating the annual awards and inspiring the community.
The founders of the awards Pink Play Mags & The Pink Pages Directory, PFLAG Canada (with PFLAG York Region and PFLAG Durham Region), Rainbow High Vacations, Deb Pearce from Rogers TV foQus with Deb Pearce, Positive Lite, Pride Durham, and Club 717, will be joined by the Church Wellesley Village BIA and Ontario Gay and Lesbian Chamber to form the INSPIRE AWARDS Corporation and together they vow to “inspire the community and bring it together; we will celebrate our past and present heroes so we never forget the work it took and still takes to build a community, and the contributions many make for the betterment of our own community and the world around us at large, and we will encourage living an inspiring life by creating future programs to that effect”.
Each year will see the INSPIRE AWARDS with the help of the LGBTQ community choose the following categories to honour:
A lifetime achievement award, presented at a pre Holidays Season cocktail reception “INSPIRE AWARDS presents A Lifetime of Achievement”. Every year the honoree will be chosen through open community suggestions and decided on by the INSPIRE AWARDS Corporation Board of Directors. Plans for the first annual cocktail reception in 2011 are under way.
Inspiring Community Organization of the Year, chosen at the start of each year and featured on the awards website for the duration of the year to encourage fundraising and donations to said organization. Every year the honoree will be chosen through open community suggestions and decided on by the INSPIRE AWARDS Corporation Board of Directors. The honoured organization will also be celebrated at the annual summer gala.
LGBTQ Person of the Year, LGBTQ Youth of the Year, LGBTQ Positive Business of the Year, the honorees of each year will be chosen through community nominations and decided on by a judging panel of leaders in the LGBTQ community. Celebrations will take place at an annual summer gala and the title holders of each year’s titles will go on to march in the annual Toronto Pride Parade.
The magical and historical Casa Loma is being considered for the second consecutive year as the location of the summer gala, where the winners, the nominees, and the LGBTQ community and their allies will be celebrated in style.
