It’s been a spectacular month for women’s networking. Who knew there were so many great women business owners around? Firstly, we had a great time at the WRIB Social Media and Marketing Your Business event on Monday, August 23, 2010. We had a good number of women business owners attend the session and many commented at the end that they were looking forward to a "Part Two" event. While it's not certain if that’s doable, we’ll certainly consider it. Next, the 5 th Annual OGLCC BBQ brought out many a woman business owner. Considering Jamboree is the same week, I’d say we had a very respectable showing and a good time catching up with old faces and new faces alike. We're now looking forward to September when we’ll have some great networking activities. We’ll be helping everyone meet more people and get to know others better as well. We'll also talk about ways you can continue to enhance and further your relationships even when the connection starts off slowly. See you all on September 22 nd at Slack’s Restaurant & Bar in Toronto.

Women in Recreation and Business (WRIB) and the Ontario Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (OGLCC) are working together to strengthen the involvement and participation of Women Business Owners within our community. Not only do we have a new joint membership program, but there will be a unique line-up of networking events specifically for the women entrepreneurs during this next year. Dee Paul, president of the WRIB organization, has revived business events for WRIB members. Recently, WRIB held a very successful Women’s' Business event on May 31st with nearly 50 women entrepreneurs in attendance. In addition, WRIB has been hosting a women's business luncheon on Friday afternoons. The next WRIB business event will be the AGM on July 21, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. located at Whistlers Pub & Grill. A joint membership will nearly double the number of networking events for our women business members as well as open up a variety of non-business events available under the WRIB organization. The OGLCC is running a series of women-only networking hours that will precede our regular networking events. The inaugural run of this event will take place July 28, 2010, at Bumpkins (21 Gloucester Street, Toronto, Ontario) from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m followed immediately by our regular networking event from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
If you or any women entrepreneurs you know would like to find a place to meet other women entrepreneurs in our community, please register today at http://www.oglcc.com/wrib. To take advantage of our 2-for-1 Membership Campaign along with WRIB's discount membership, please call the OGLCC office for this summer's introductory rates, which are available until August 31, 2010*.

Ottawa, Ontario – On Thursday, June 3, 2010, OGLCC Eastern Ontario Regional Board Member, Denis Schryburt, attended a special charity event in support of Bruce House, Pink Triangle Services (PTS), The Village, and Capital Pride. Swirl and Twirl 7, Ottawa’s annual beer, wine, and food-tasting event has been raising funds for the GLBTTQ community for 7 years.
“The event was amazing. Hundreds of people coming together filling the foyer of Ottawa City Hall to capacity to help raise money for the community,” said Schryburt, who represented the OGLCC as the Chamber sponsored the event’s first ever silent auction. “The energy in the room was pure enjoyment.”
The Ontario Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (OGLCC) donated a prize package that fetched almost $300 at the silent auction. Chamber members Denis Schryburt and the Delta Chelsea hotel in Toronto also donated prizes for the auction, which all together helped raise over $600 of the $2,000 raised that evening.
